  • This year, we have two teams that will be competing on the Model UN circuit. If your student is in high school as of September 1, 2023 (grades 9-12), they will participate in the TBHMUN High School Travel Team. If your student is in middle school as of September 1, 2023 (grades 6-8), they will participate in the TBHMUN Middle School Competitive Team.

Students not yet in middle school (grade 5 or younger) as of September 1, 2023 are not eligible to join any TBHMUN travel team.

Students who have already graduated from high school are not eligible to join any TBHMUN travel team.

  • The TBHMUN High School Travel Team is only open to students who are in grades 9-12 as of September 1, 2023. These students will meet weekly throughout the year to prepare for their competitions. They will travel to three conferences around the state of Florida which involve overnight stays at the conference locations.

    These conferences are;

    1) KnightMUN at the University of Central Florida in Orlando,

    2) GatorMUN at the University of Florida in Gainesville, and,

    3) FHSMUN at the Hilton Altamonte Springs in Altomonte Springs.

The TBHMUN Middle School Competitive Team will meet monthly until the spring when they will begin meeting weekly to prepare for their one conference. These students will participate in one conference, FMSMUN in St. Petersburg, which does not involve overnight travel.

  • Yes. All students are required to attend all of the conferences that the travel team they register for will be competing at. Should a student need to withdraw for emergency purposes (e.g. illness, family emergency), they will not be entitled to a refund or credit of any kind.

  • Students are encouraged to attend all meetings of their team. If they cannot attend for any reason, they will be responsible for completing any team assignments that were due and for learning any materials discussed during their absence on their own.

  • The high school and middle school teams will be combined to learn and work together when their meetings overlap on the first Friday of each month.

  • All overnight travel by the TBHMUN High School Travel Team will be chaperoned by at least 2 members of the TBHMUN staff and at least 2 parent volunteers.

  • No. All team fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you withdraw from the team or fail to participate in any team activities, you will not receive a refund or credit of any kind.

  • Students are required to have the ability to reliably access to the internet, email, Google Classroom, and Discord in order to successfully participate in any of our travel teams.

  • Please send us an email at contact@tbhmun.com and we would be happy to answer any additional questions you might have.

What does the travel team do?

Our Travel Team is a team of homeschooled students that participates as a “delegation” at competitive High School Model UN conferences. Usually, institutional (public or private) schools send delegations that are made up of students from their schools, almost like sports teams. Our Travel Team gives homeschooled students the opportunity to be on a team with their peers and compete against students from other schools, which is normally difficult or nigh-impossible.

Why do Model United Nations?

Model United Nations is unique in how broad, thorough, and intense it is in the way it prepares students to take on academic and real-world challenges. Students will learn and practice many skills, such as public speaking, debate, research, academic/formal writing, diplomacy and negotiation, leadership, and personal networking.

Although intense and demanding, ModelUN is also very fun and rewarding!

At Model UN, you broaden your horizons. By learning and networking, you can be a part of the UN’s efforts to establish peace, secure human rights, and enable all people to live in dignity.
— Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General

increasing access to tbhmun

The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to transition from in-person team meetings to online training sessions. Those challenging times reminded us of the value of in-person learning while also opening our eyes to new opportunities that online resources can provide our delegates.

Now that we are back to normal, we combine both by anchoring our signature in-person meetings with additional pieces of training and resources provided to our delegates in an online format.

Receive training and opportunities

Our Travel Team delegates benefit from weeks of hands-on live training provided by our talented team of staff members, most of whom are themselves successful former homeschoolers and delegates on the Model UN competitive circuit.

Our staff makes sure that every student receives the instruction and support they need to develop the skills needed to not only succeed but excel at Model UN!
