Where are they now?
We’ve talked a lot about the massive positive effect of ModelUN on highschoolers, but where’s the proof? Right here. Meet some of our proudest alumni, and find out how TBHMUN helped them get where they are today.
David Shiereck
David “Michael” Shiereck was one of the first six students on of TBHMUN in 2016. Although he didn’t win any individual awards his first year on the circuit, he would go on to be come notable as one of TBHMUN’s most talented students, being on the team two more years, 2017 and 2018. David has racked up a staggering awards, at our in house committees, and at competitive conferences.
David is now a senior at the University of South Florida, majoring in Computer Science, intending to pursue a career in cyber security and “mad-scientist-ing” upon graduation. He also comes back to help out TBHMUN as a staff member for our single-day crisis committees, where he helps as an assistant crisis director, or occasionally a “staff plant”.
“I’m wearing my donkey onsie to the delegate social, like a real man!”

Collin Greenhalgh
Collin joined the team as an innocent, bright eyed sophomore, and was quickly robbed of that joy by the likes of Michael and Justin trying to drag him on unapproved excursions during the conferences. A man of true integrity, however, Collin quickly earned his place as one of Matthew’s most trusted students, for both his obedience to team rules, and his reliably strong in-committee performance. Collin became a highly competent and routinely awarded delegate at both in-house committees and competitive conferences, and was on the team for the years 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Today, Collin is a junior at the University of South Florida, majoring in Chemistry. You may also meet Collin at our in-house crisis committees, where he serves as in-room committee chair on the dias.
“MUN was one of the most important things I did in high school.”
“Model UN was absolutely cruicial to my highschool years. It built not only my ability to do research and debate other peers, but also helped my social skills in general.
I hated public speaking in middle school and early high school, but after MUN, I have the confidence to give a speech or presentation whenever called upon.
I also met some of my closest friends on the team, and the memories of the weekends when we went to conferences are some of my favorites. I would recommend it to anyone, as it was one of the most important things I did in high school.”

Patrick Oefelein
Patrick joined the team as a sophomore in the Fall of 2018, having attended two TBHMUN crisis committees that summer. His dedicated efforts were rewarded with awards at competitive conferences over the course of two years. Patrick’s passionate nature and skillfull debating became a staple in the committee rooms of TBHMUN’s crisis committees, and he now helps out as an assistant crisis director and occasional travel team advisor.
Patrick is studying at the University of Central Florida, majoring in clinical psychology. He hopes to pursue a Ph.D. and be a positive force for mental health and healing in the lives of others.
“TBHMUN pushed me to perform to the peak of my abilities, not only on committee floors but in my academic and personal endeavors too. The skills and relationships I built have allowed me to be in a position to attempt to pursue a PhD, an aspiration I would not have the confidence to chase otherwise.”
